On Saturday 1st April, Precedent Productions hosted their 18th annual Australian Small Business Champion Awards, recognising the country’s most outstanding small businesses in a night of entertainment and celebration.

The PLH team was nominated as finalists in two categories for the prestigious award. Those categories being Champion “Accounting Services” and “Business of the Decade”.

Still feeling the buzz from finalist nominations in 2016 for local and national business and accounting awards, the team could not hold back the excitement created by another significant industry recognition.

Peter and Linda kindly offered this opportunity to the team and they all jumped at the chance to be involved in this important event and milestone for the business. So on Saturday, they packed their bags into the car and hit the freeway to Sydney.

After a few navigation mishaps they were glammed up and heading into the Westin – Martin Place. Upon walking into the ball room, it was apparent that the awards night’s reputation of the “Oscars of Small Business” was no exaggeration. The Ball Room hosted over 1,100 guests – all business owners and their entourages.

The event was hosted by Channel Ten presenter Natarsha Belling, who introduced an array of inspiring speakers including the Federal Minister of Small Business – The Honourable Michael McCormack MP and Jenny Aitchison – Local Member for Maitland and Shadow Minister for the Prevention of Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault and Shadow Minister for Small Business. The speakers all showed great gratitude for the efforts and successes of Australia’s small businesses. They spoke of the difficulties and rewards that business owners face and thanked them for their dedication and commitment to their passions, creating the back bone of the Australian economy.

The beginning of the night provided entertainment from Alfie Arcuri (2016 Winner of The Voice), Nat Conway (X-Factor) and Reece Mastin (2011 Winner of X-Factor) and a series of winning speeches, each with their own inspiring story. The team was lucky enough to be seated with clients and friends from Carter’s Heavy Haulage & Transport who were also nominated as finalists in their own category. The atmosphere was electric!

Then the “Accounting Services” category had arrived. Everyone was excited and nervous as they named all thirteen finalists. Then after a moment of anticipation “PLH Accountants!” was called. The team made their way through the crowd to the stage, with the spotlight shining and accepted the trophy with pride. Linda and Peter made a very memorable acceptance speech! (So memorable they were later approached by reality television producers in the crowd!)

After an interview and some professional photograph’s, the night carried on with celebrations, laughter, more awe inspiring business stories and great opportunity to meet and great with some of the other contenders.

Unfortunately PLH did not come away with a trophy for the “business of the Decade” category but they were very proud of their achievements and very grateful to be named a finalist, especially up against such strong competitors.

PLH Accountants would like to thank the co-ordinators and presenters of the event for providing this opportunity to well deserving small businesses all over Australia. They would also like to congratulate all finalists and winners of the event and most of all they would like to extend their appreciation and thanks to their loyal clients who support them and inspire them to go further, to push their limits and challenge them to exceed their expectations year after year. They look forward to another exciting year ahead.
