Lead with Laughter

The good ole saying “Laughter is the best medicine” is probably one of the truest sayings I have ever heard. When you laugh, it not only lightens your load mentally, but it helps you physically as well. You breathe in more oxygen and it increases your brains release of endorphins – and we all know endorphins make you happy! It can also stimulate circulation, helping your muscles relax, which in turn, will aid in the relieving of stress.

You breathe in more oxygen and it increases your brains release of endorphins – and we all know endorphins make you happy! It can also stimulate circulation, helping your muscles relax, which in turn, will aid in the relieving of stress.

The same goes at work in the office. It shows from a series of studies the positive impact laughing can have in the office. Laughter relieves stress, boosts engagement and well-being, and sparks not only creativity and collaboration but also precision and productivity – which is important in the accounting industry. Given all the research showing that a good snort, giggle, chortle or cackle will lower stress, benefit employees and reduce absenteeism, the freedom to laugh seems not just good, but necessary at work.

A little laughter at work goes a long way. It is the sound of a bonded team and a supportive environment.

Ready to get the giggles going? Here are a few ways to start;

  • Develop rituals – Start meetings with a joke or funny video
  • Send a joke of the day – Forward on a daily email with a clean (ish) joke
  • Host “silly days” – Have employees wear silly socks, footy jerseys, or hats.
  • Team Bonding Days – Surprise your employees with special days to get to know each other.
